Canadian tourists looking to travel to Brazil will be required to have a visitor visa to enter the country starting October 1, 2023.
This is a pretty poorly written article.
Brazil reinstated its visitor visa requirements for Canada — so did Australia, Japan and the US in March.
This implies that Canadians need a VISA to enter Aus, Japan and the US as well. I’m not sure if that’s the case in Japan, but it certainly isn’t in the US or Australia. I assume they meant to say that Australians, Japanese and Americans also need a VISA to enter Brazil.
Ya, that is poorly phrased. Based on the source they linked to, they meant to say “and also for…”.
Sounds like their editor is too busy/lazy to check that kind of stuff.
That’s pretty similar to articles earlier this year with headlines like “EU to require visas for Canadians” when the truth is “EU to require visas for non-EU citizens”
Is just poor editorializing.
This is as it should be, following visa reciprocity policies, because Canada requires visas for visitors from Brazil.
Important to be in the know if planning to travel, of course.
To clarify:
Brazil has decided to resume entry visa requirements for citizens of the U.S., Japan, Australia and Canada, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.
The country’s Foreign Ministry, known as Itamaraty, is set to announce the decision on Thursday to the governments of the four countries. Brazil’s government will later publicly announce the measure.
The decision suspends a unilateral decision that former President Jair Bolsonaro’s government made in June 2019 to facilitate tourism.
