The Canada Revenue Agency says 185 employees have been fired to date for claiming a federal COVID-19 benefit when they were not eligible for it. That’s an increase of 65 since the CRA last updated the public on its review in September.

    During the pandemic we needed to give everyone the benefit of the doubt because we didn’t have the resources to audit everyone’s claims… I hope everyone who abused these benefits gets a huge legal hammer dropped on them.

        And that’s fair. People really didn’t know what was going to happen the next day and horded all types of stuff.

        They pay it back and everyone moves on. For everyone else it should be steep penalties.
