Montreal, March 28, 2025 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is outraged to learn that Canada has approved a contract for the export of artillery propellants to the Israeli military via the United States, despite an explicit commitment from Foreign Affairs Minister Joly that she would stop such transfers. CJPME urges Prime Minister Carney to block this transfer of explosive artillery fuel and finally implement a full two-way arms embargo on Israel without any loopholes.

At lease the candidate in notre dame de grace where i live has demonstrated support for Palestinian rights. He endorsed the “Vote Palestine” platform, which advocates for Palestinian self-determination and calls for Canadian policy changes, including the recognition of the State of Palestine and the cessation of arms sales to Israel
The MP in my riding has also been responsive to my emails regarding this topic, but on a national level it feels there is no choice. Canadian politics are generally not much for foreign policy, but if ever there was a time to be supporting the system of international law that is meant to offer protection from the abuse of bigger powers, now is the time for Canada to be doing that out of both principle and self-interest. Hopefully the current break from the US can lead to more independence on the issue once the election is done, but that hope admittedly feels faint.
