I always wonder how someone could think that murdering their spouse is easier than divorce or therapy.

So many lives ruined for absolutely zero gain.

As Paul Simon said, there must be 50 ways to leave your lover. Pretty sure none of them are murder

There’s only five ways discussed in the song. Maybe the other 45 are various forms of murder.

You just need a few pills, Jill
        Couple o’ stabs, Babs
You can run over with a car, Jafar
        Just get yourself free

If you can get away with it, it’s the option with the strongest financial incentive.

But this guy minimum-efforted it - there was zero chance he’d escape suspicion. Hell, he apparently told someone else he was doing it. No idea what he was thinking.

You might as well play the lottery and expect to win!

He also used poison found on their farm… what an idiot!

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Michael MacKay told police officers that his wife Cindy probably died by suicide, but the truth is he served her a lethal dose of poison concealed in a mug of Gatorade.

Michael pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Monday at the Court of King’s Bench in Battleford, Sask.

Cindy continued to work as a registered nurse after they settled on the farm, until her youngest daughter suffered a “freak accident.”

Shortly after downing the laced drink, Cindy went into severe medical distress and Michael made frantic, emotional calls to 911.

There was no direct evidence, like eyewitness testimony, but the Crown developed its theory based on a series of circumstances that were suspicious, ultimately charging Michael with first-degree murder.

On Monday, dozens of people attended the court hearing to show support for Cindy and her family — so many that several had to listen from the hallway and others sat in the jurors box.
