I hope those stupid Ojeeboos don’t make Chewbacca speak in Cree

In case any of you are wondering, I’m northern Ontario Ojibwe/Cree with family up in Hudson Bay who are more Cree than Ojibwe. I speak my language and it was the first language I learned growing up before English. Up there we call the Ojibwe and Ojibway … Ojeeboo, it’s the Cree pronunciation of the word

I love the idea of any film being made into a Native language but it will be a huge problem for so many people. There are dozens of dialects of Cree and Ojibway across from northern Ontario, Manitoba and all around the Great Lakes with so many variations of the language that it’s hard to find agreement in language variations among anyone.

It will be like saying you are going to make a Latin version of Stars Wars … but a Latin version from a thousand years ago when it closely ressembled French, Spanish and Italian … but you’re only going to use a Latin dialect from a small region in the south of France.

What is like a native sitcom that shows the culture of Canadian reserves or reflects a popular understanding of the culture? Is there an Aboriginal “netflix”?
