Obviously given the training data, it’s not surprising that a defining feature of AI images is that they have a certain uncanny familiarity to them, but there’s a certain class of those images, which I tend to see more often than most other styles it can produce, which give me that sense more strongly. I think I finally put my finger on what they remind me of the most: Goosebumps novels cover art. They tend to be a little more detailed and less kind of ‘painty’ looking than the actual covers they seem to imitate but but something about the shading and composition just seems very reminiscent of those. I could definitely see this along with many other such images on the cover of a Goosebumps book.
