That’s a tough question. The new Captain America has grappled with that exact thought. He’s Black and fully recognizes that America was built on the back of slaves and even receives criticism for wearing the red, white, and blue with stars and stripes.

I don’t recall his exact reasoning, but it’s something like America is his country too and he gets to have a say in where we go from here, just like everyone else. I think that’s a really powerful idea. We get to make America what we want and we have the opportunity to accept people for who they are and reject hatred.
