Hi friends, I managed to get a few services running (Mobilizon, Mastodon, PeerTube etc.), and I’m just now realizing that by default none of these federated networks are subscribed to anything?
I’m going to be the only one using these services so I don’t care about moderation or defederation. Is there no “subscribe all” button?
And if not, are there comprehensive lists somewhere I can download and import?
Thanks in advance.
There are thousands of servers with millions of accounts. You can’t subscribe to all of them.
I would suggest using common lists like those from Fediseer and Fediverse explorers like https://fediverse.party to find the most popular servers for each type, and then subscribe to accounts you like.
If you just want a filled global timeline, you’re probably looking for a relay. This website has a bunch. Make sure you defederate from problematic servers first, though (you can check Fediseer to see which ones may be problematic) or you risk getting a wave of spam or questionable content fed into your servers.
Thanks. Is there a way to export fediseer list? And import into Mastodon?
Just to clarify something. It seems nitpicky but I hope it saves you some time.
You don’t add instances you follow accounts on those instances. When you follow someone on a Mastodon incidence all their posts will start to flow to your instance. When you join a Lemmy community all the posts in that community will start to flow to your Lemmy instance.
Well I can’t see any accounts…
Fediseer has an API (https://fediseer.com/api/) but I don’t know if there’s an importer that can use it. I imagine turning the API into a list you can load into existing tools shouldn’t be too hard if you can write code.
There’s LCS if you’re also running Lemmy
