I think its great. Its for people who simply don’t want to share their phone number with other people which is a huge privacy concern, as you can find out a lot about a person by looking up info connected to their phone number.
Running a search engine is just a lot more expensive than running a VPN and email service. The amount of data and processing power needed to have a useful search index is just so much higher
finally Germany is not the one opposed to stuff like this 😅
I love it. Personally I don’t think it is too expensive, though I am probably a power user of search engines, as I need it a lot while programming all sorts of stuff… So maybe it is just me saying its worth the money, because I use it a lot
Hi there, mbin dev here. We have a configuration problem with rate limits. “429 Too Many Requests” is the server saying “you requested to much, I will not send you any responses anymore”. Feedback is noted and we’ll try to get that sorted out asap

Thats what I will be going for 😁
Since hardware RAID is not state of the art anymore I will definetly stick with software RAID. I think I will just build a new server for the money, since an 8-Bay USB enclosure costs around 600€ and for that amount of money I can just build a new server with even better performance
Problem for me is: there is not a 6 bay enclosure and the 8 bay enclosures cost as many as a RAID capable one
Very informative, thank you :)
I mean I’ve been running the setup this way for >4 years and never had any problem with the USB connection, so I cannot attest to “usb connections are quite unstable”…
USB-C. It only has a single SATA connector inside
I changed it, thanks for the hint :)
Neigher. This is the percentage of the 100 accounts with the most follower on each instance. Mastodon.social has 38
who is “yaseen”? 😅
I mean “fediverse” is accurate if one does not include groups in “accounts”…
Well, yes. On Lemmy you cannot follow accounts. However groups (communities, magazines, etc.) do not count as an “account” I think. A chart about the biggest groups would certainly be very interesting as well. And that lemmy does only support a subgroup of the fediverse is imo not a reason to not post this here
Absolutely. I mean yeah 30-45% of the biggest accounts are on mastodon.social but it is the only one with a huge share. The rest is pretty diversely scattered among instances

open signups mean you just register via email and password (on mastodon you still have to verify your mail) and you’re good to go. On a lot of platforms you have an “approval” mode were admins have to approve each account that wants to register
