It bothers me how rose-tinted this article is. It pours praise onto the fediverse while glossing over all the major problems. They also keep saying “everything is available everywhere”, which it isn’t, or “you can take your account anywhere” which isn’t a thing on most fediverse sites, and where it is it’s limited.

I dunno, it’s good to be positive, but I feel this article over-promises and fails to explain what is is trying to. If anything, it muddies some of the basics and sets people up to leave as soon as they realise the experience isn’t all that or that instances don’t work how they think.

I happily follow users that make things. Artists, video producers, what have you. I don’t want to miss any of their work. That said, not having user profiles wasn’t a big deal on Reddit, you would just create a subreddit with your username and it worked fine.

I feel you. Feels like the algorithm just does whatever now, on main YouTube and Shorts it is awful as well, constantly showing me the same 5 shorts and recommending me channels I have asked to “not recommend” multiple times. No amount of disliking and clicking “Not Interested” seems to help, at least not for longer than a day.

I use SY and I get the sense that Bobby is more of a fast and loose type while the Mihon dev is focused more on polish. My assumptions are based on the unpolished nature of SY features and the Mihon dev saying “some of us liked plain Tachiyomi” [sic].

I got a covid shot but didn’t bother with flu. My very uneducated point of view was that flu doesn’t have any serious long term effects and I had heard a few people say the vaccine took them out for a few days, so why bother? As I say though, uneducated on it, anyone think I should?

I only got the invitation in November or so, checked the appt. dates near me and they all sucked - far away or during work. I checked again couple of weeks ago and they had way more slots so I managed to get one close by on a weekend, but I could easily see someone not bothering due to the lack of availability.

It is much much more of a pain to access content on small instances where it hasn’t synced yet. It means visiting those larger instances anyway to check if it’s worth subscribing to communities. And then trying to actually subscribe is a lesson in patience while it gives you no search results and errors out if you try to visit an unsynced community directly.
