I’m not saying you specifically OP, but just in general. If karma was the only reason someone was civil on reddit that gives off the same vibes as the people who ask why we aren’t out raping and murdering if we don’t believe in God.

That still doesn’t address the fact that not all instances are created equal. And it’s not immediately apparent which instances block others.

You make a good point. The key difference is that some instances block other instances (or at least that has been my understanding of how Lemmy works from my limited time here). So depending on where they sign up they might not even be able to access certain subs.

Plus the “duplicate” subs on reddit tend to be one of two reasons. The original moderators let the sub die or enough people didn’t get along with how the original sub was being moderated and they left to make their own copy. It’s pretty rare that there are two identical subs that have equal engagement.

The piece you’re missing is that all those wars after WW2 they weren’t fighting to save the world. They were fighting to line the pockets of the military industrial complex (and big oil) that sprouted up around post WW2 America. The goal wasn’t to “win” it was to funnel as much money into the pockets of several already rich and powerful cunts as possible.

If there was actually a threat to American citizens and we wanted to delete that threat entirely we would have absolutely no issues completely leveling pretty much any foreign nation with or without nukes.

Canada’s actually military would be a speed bump for ours. Nothing.

But dealing with the global backlash and potential escalation to nuclear war would be an unmitigated disaster for not only the US but the whole world.

We may not know exactly what would happen in the fallout after the hypothetical invasion but I think we can all agree it would be very bad for pretty much everyone on the planet.

As someone who is “stuck” here after being permabanned on all accounts on reddit I can say that the number one “issue” Lemmy has is also the greatest part about Lemmy. The fact that every instance can have its own copy of the “same” sub.

I completely understand why someone coming from reddit is going to search up “ask” and they will see a few ask Lemmy subs coming up. At a glance they won’t know which one is “better” and why there are multiple.

Sadly most people will turn around and leave at that point. The average internet user will just go somewhere else the moment they feel lost or confused by anything. The few that might stick through it and make a post asking why there are multiple instances of the same type of sub are likely to be spoken down to by a bunch of condescending nerds that feel superior to outsider idiots. I know that many of you are very kind and welcoming, but enough of the user base are elitist pricks about everything that new users will notice immediately.

Lemmy can’t seem to decide if they want to grow or if they want to gate keep. I think the reality is that as more people are blanket banned from reddit without any reason such as myself that people will keep slowly trickling in.

The only “change” I think Lemmy needs is its user feedback. I have been banned from so many subs for completely unrelated things and without going and looking up the mod logs for my own name I wouldnt have any clue whatsoever. I would just think that Lemmy was broken constantly since it just gives you submitting errors instead of telling you that you have been banned or anything.

The “automod” messages are basically useless as they don’t tell you what rule you broke, which comment it was specifically or who actually initiated the ban. I know they aren’t always actually “automatic” bans because I have gotten messages from automod for comments I left weeks ago. So either they are the slowest and least attentive bots on planet earth or the mods of those subs are using the automod to hide behind as a layer of anonymity.

Trump has negative dick. There’s actually a black hole where he would have a dick. It’s just expanding and swallowing the whole world into it.

Except Canada hasn’t exactly been the best neighbor for awhile. They got a dilapidated fence with holes in it and we asked them nicely to fix it. They said no. So we asked less nicely.

We did try the nice way first.

Canada didn’t even try and negotiate anything else. Pathetic.

At least Claudia Sheinbaum had the balls to ask Trump to do something about the guns the cartel is managing to get out of America. I respect her not only doing what Trump asked but not just backing down immediately and making sure Mexico could also benefit from the stupid interaction. She’s fantastic.

America lost 0 wars to Canada (not that any of that matters for this current conversation about the world of 2025). There was a stalemate, but if you wanna count that as a win for Canada you go right ahead man.

I do think Canada could survive if they went cold turkey on American goods and services. It would SUCK for y’all for a while, but I think you could do it. You would probably spend a ton of money and time expanding your exporting capabilities to go more global, but why bother when you can sell to your neighbors with way less effort and overhead?

All you gotta do is keep a better eye on the border. Doesn’t seem like a crazy request given the large upsides for your country.

The unfortunate reality is that America has allowed Canada to exist because they work with us on most things and it’s a mutually beneficial relationship. Y’all sorta keep an eye on our northern border and we protect you from basically all threats merely by existing nearby you.

Yeah if we had to completely stop getting stuff from Canada that would suck, but we would be fine.

If we stopped trading with you Canada’s economy would take decades to fix.

Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Or in this case don’t try and enter into a trade war with the nation that basically funds your existence.
