Aw yep, that’s the other big problem, moderation.
I feel like peertube could really use some sort of Lemmy driven community engagement
Agreed. Lemmy and Kbin have been getting a lot of attention lately, and Mastodon is the elephant in the room. But I hear little about Peertube instances. I think they would be a perfect fit in the Lemmy universe.
The one problem I see is cost. Lemmy serves text. Peertube would store and serve video. Lots of it. That’s a big bill.
The “pay what you can” model from Piotr is pretty stunning. I’m glad the project qualifies for that.
The highest costs are servers. No surprise there.
Glad he has allocated money for legal and accounting advice.
I hope he can eventually raise enough money to pay himself.
Yeah it’s been fun! I’ve set up self-hosting of several fediverse projects and have learned a lot.
Holy smokes! Honestly I don’t know if we have or will make much of a dent in r*ddit, but at this point I don’t care. We’re building a new enthusiastic community and doing it fast. It’s a lot of fun.
Hmm, that’s actually not a bad response at all. Two thoughts things brings up to me:
Actually yes and I don’t think it’s a bad idea. Sentiment analysis is not a hard task nowadays. If overused the site would become a bunch of artificial positivity, but I think there could be a place for this. Could be part of a mod toolkit too.
Very sensible. Nothing wrong with increasing the scope of the fediverse. If things start getting evil we can take steps at that point.
I love the idea of Friendica. Unfortunately I can’t imagine any of my friends/family IRL switching away from big tech social media.
One thing that helps here is that I can see exactly how many upvotes and how many downvotes a post/comment has, instead of an aggregated amount. It adds a level of responsibility, I think?
Also if you don’t like it, there are instances like Beehaw that don’t even allow downvotes.
This is the way I see it too. It would be nice if along with the recent growth in Lemmy, if we also had a growth in Peertube instances that could be used for publishing and linking video.
Good to see, but as with all posts like this, it’s important to note that the really important number is “Active Users” That number has gone up significantly as well, just not as fast as number of accounts.
Holy crap. I don’t, but after seeing that I think I’ll need to start
