I bet it’s from people picking at it and the paint chipping off the sharp edge, but it does also look like the hole was drilled on a Friday afternoon by a guy who probably should have retired 10 years ago.

Reliability in that I’ve used flash drives and SD cards for years but have only ever had issues with corrupt SD cards (probably at least half a dozen times) while I’ve never had any with flash drives.
Constant writes is an issue with them, which is why I think it’s stupid that the Raspberry Pi Foundation continues to use them as the default storage/OS drive. Then again, they continue to make insane choices with power supplies as well, so it shouldn’t be a big surprise.
In my experience, flash drives are way more reliable than SD cards and I’d put SSD and HDD above both of those.
I wish they’d just ditch the SD card on the Pi already as it’s always the most likely reason why your stuff stops working. For my Pi running Home Assistant, I’ve swapped to an SDD as the boot drive. For the others, I still use SD cards but they’re just doing basic stuff like running Klipper on my 3d printer or a (WIP) live photo frame that can be easily swapped with a replacement SD later.
I know reddit is the devil, but they actually have an active subreddit whereas lemmy’s is pretty much dead. Check /r/opensignups
I guess we’ll just have to take their word for it since they don’t actually link to anything or provide the data. In fact, that whole statement doesn’t even appear to be attributed to the University of Amsterdam. It appears the preceding statement about 25-34 year olds pirating is what’s attributed to the university.
Complete garbage website. Tons of conflicting info, suppositions, and when you bother to look at the sources, their claims quickly fall apart. For example,
In 2022, pirate website visits hit a record of 215 billion.9
-9. “Average Teenager’s iPod Has 800 Illegal Music Tracks” by The Times - written June 2008
So, unless there are three times as many male pirates as female, those messages are effective at reducing piracy.
That would not surprise me at all.
It’s like refusing to pay the $20 park entrance fee and then making your own copy of the park in your backyard. Is that stealing $20 from the park?
Plus they come off like those ridiculous anti-drug ads that make it seem like a single puff of weed will make you shoot your friend in the face and run your dog over. They’re just way over the top to the point that they’re comical and easy to mock.
The storage for Jellyfin is a NAS. You can run it on a Synology NAS too. This is the same thing just DIY.
Network attached storage? I don’t see the issue with OPs usage of the term.
They allow you to search for files of a specific size range and resolution automatically based on profiles that you configure during the setup process. Once configured, you just tell them what movie or show you want and they take care of everything else. 15 minutes later (or however long it takes to download) the files will appear in your library ready to watch. Also, for stuff that hasn’t been released yet, it will monitor those and download them automatically once someone uploads a copy.
I’ve never heard of this before outside of “checking your ID at a bar.” What is it?
Mullvad is no longer good for torrenting as they removed port forwarding meaning you can’t open a port for others to connect to for seeding. This might get you by on public trackers alone where it’s common to just download a file and never seed it back, but you’ll quickly get banned from any private trackers.
That’s a sticky spot to be in. Is another HDD out of the question? 6TB of encoding is going to take a lot of time too. When I first built my current server, I went ahead and bought a bluray drive with the intent of encoding bluray discs and gave up after about a dozen because of the time requirements.
Agreed. Just download the copies you want in 5 minutes rather than spending 45 minutes encoding each video or buy another HDD for more space.

Npt saying you’re right or wrong but paid news has been the model for quite a while now and that has resulted in 24 hour talking heads on TV, paid stories, clickbait, and people resorting to word of mouth on places like Facebook for all their news. It’s not as if the current trajectory is any better than your hypothetical one.
It’s not very efficient to have an array of 2TB drives versus a single 16TB drive for example. That’s a lot of extra required power and ports for little gain under home use.
If you have a seedbox you might find it way more advantageous to install Sonarr/Radarr/Prowlarr. Manual search seems more ideal for someone pirating at home that only has their computer on for a couple hours a day.
