I never touched any GPT crap, let alone BingGPT. Enjoy the doomsday! Off I go to the high seas alone!
Dramatic talk aside, it is obvious enough. US companies are trying to gather data and train AI by giving it to people for free so that they can install it in war robots and continue their genocide economy. If this feels like conspiracy…

I recommend keeping Yandex as second opinion, and Searx with “default languages (all)” results option as third opinion. Relying on one for news is very problematic for critical thought and truly free, democratic discourse.
DDG (uses Bing index) censored a lot of non-mainstream portals both at socialist left and conservative right spectrum, pushing Western neoliberal agenda websites that run Washington/Brussels propaganda. This was done during Ukraine conflict and seems to be a continuing theme, probably even for Israel genocide. Some call DDG as a “diet Google”, since Google/Bing have done the same thing since long ago.
I am not sure how Kagi deals with this problem, since it is a different style of search engine, putting users in their own search bubbles, and has its own indexing to begin with.
Not open source. I find Yandex to be objectively the most superior search engine for all purposes, as they work outside Western jurisdictions. Better privacy than Google/Bing.
If you want a “private” search engine, Searx metasearch with “default language (all)” option works about 85% as good as Yandex.
Edit: 85% is only meant for text/link results. Yandex also has reverse image search, video search and other things with no competition in sight.
If you want lesser private but more ordinary results, Startpage is great.
Everything else is same tier or bad/useless. DDG (western censorship), Ecosia, Qwant, Google, BingGPT and others included.
Closed source app filled with ads, promotes subscription mindset, not a good thing.
Jerboa. I have not bothered to look around, and only tried Eternity (Infinity) for a while, decent.
Yes. He is the one who did a lot of privacy tests/reports, and a lot of people intentionally misinterpreted the results, mostly in pro-Apple camp.
Apple collects more data on you than Google, if you ever bothered to carefully read Douglas’ report on Android and iOS data collection instead of dogwater pro-Apple propaganda articles. Apple also makes a ton of revenue from ads, just in case you were sleeping in a cave.
Avoid Cloudflare instances, they hate Tor/VPN and anonymity. They are Project Honeypot for CIA.
Use this website to check CF instances. https://lemmyverse.net
You might either need to figure out the IP addresses from logs using whois, or there might already be some kind of list, or HOSTS ruleset made by someone to block Intel’s connections. But you need no hardware/software other than that.
My point was everyone keeps crying and moaning over Intel ME and AMD PSP minus ring capabilities every other day, and a solution as simple as this exists to defeat 3 letter spooks.
A simple way to deal with it is finding its package name using either internet or App Manager from F-Droid, and using ADB on a computer with USB debugging on, using this command:
adb shell pm disable-user
Packages disabled using ADB cannot be enabled without manual user confirmation or via IPC between apps.
Enjoy this hack!
Note: the “disable” App Info button lacks the advantages I mentioned above and is almost useless for some of these system packages.
If it managed to make corporate AI public licensed, it would be a 4D chess move.
Bot blocking. Captcha bots are becoming smarter. Even Yandex is at last starting to become stricter with their indigenous captcha, but they do not harass you like Google/Cloudflare captchas (also HCaptcha is CF), rather seem to just want to filter out users that abuse search API in short periods.
It looks like they are doing the “cheaping out” things that everyone else has done. And it is common across consumer tier hardware. Sure it may not be a computer, but my Philips trimmer met the same fate in trying to open it. It had a couple broken latches. Find as good business tier hardware you can find, is all I can say. ThinkPads atleast retain all the good traits, plus they officially allow users to open and repair/replace hardware, so they still are better than anything else by a long shot.
Not a very educated opinion on Lenovo ThinkPads.
What the hell is going on with a bunch of ThinkPads after the *90 series? This is not the first time I am hearing about it, and the complainers seem to pop up occasionally.
Do you poke around ThinkPad subreddit and communities to see related testimonies and solutions nowadays? Its been over a year since I kept a tab.
Then all you need is to network \ through an OpenWRT router. No matter how bad the ring access is for Intel ME or AMD PSP or whatever else, all of it is stopped on your network router. No amount of spying paranoia or folklore bypasses that.
You can buy any computer in the world with this strategy/method, even something CIA or MI5 themselves manufactured.
If you are not a top secret journalist or activist talking to some high profile entity, or someone running a leaker or drug website on darknet, you are going to be just fine with Linux on a ThinkPad, with (Medium mode) uBO/Firefox, a good systemwide HOSTS ruleset, GUFW turned on and a decent DNS provider.
I should just add that even though I am one of the fiercest critics of USA and its entities, NSA does not get constant access to your keystrokes or other stuff. The amount of data transmission for it would be staggering and noticeable instantly, even if we assumed they hypothetically collected such text data, compressed it as TAR.GZIP and sent it. The main function of Intel ME is for enterprise management and remote control of computers by businesses.
You are conflating IdeaPads and Legions with ThinkPads. Every ThinkPad model is MILSPEC and has strong ABS build.
A new ThinkPad could be bought for $800, and a refurbished one for lesser. No, ThinkPads do not get replaced every 2 years (my L470 is almost in 7th year), and the third party and official parts availability is better for Lenovo ThinkPads than Framework.
Has Western media cabal already started to rewrite history? Who was Aaron Swartz?
