First i read my subscribed by new, then i read all by new to learn about other communities. If a community I’m not interested in posts occasionally, i just scroll past. If there are 13 posts in a row about a football team, i block it.

I think i saw a community called keepwriting.
I follow cannabis communities and they sometimes mark nsfw. Also, sometimes cat pics get marked nsfw for funny.
I have 238 blocked communities. ~3/4 porn, 1/4 sports, gaming, and non-English. I don’t really want to block the instance as i kind of like to see the community titles. It’s like a weird name competition. Winners are currently hentaibdsm and dangleandjiggle.
Thanks.
There was also news today about a change in Mali that affected US military emails that were sent to .ml instead of .mil. I didn’t read the whole article so I don’t know if that was real or clickbait.
I started with a lemmy.world account and i was fine with that. Then a couple of weeks ago lemmy.world was down for a day so i made a Mastodon account. It was functional in that i could see the posts about the outage but i don’t care for the layout so I made a lemm.ee account as a backup. They all show me the same stuff.
Those ones with words that i don’t recognize - i usually assume it’s a video game.
On jerboa you can block a community without opening the post. I like to sort all/new to find new things and then block most of the porn and sports.
Click the bar at the top and choose everything / subscribed.
It was seriously 30 minutes of searching for alternatives to r/ and 10 minutes to setup - choose an instance, make a username, make a password. Then a day or two to figure out the buttons/settings/options. I don’t understand the resistance. I did use Ubuntu on an old laptop when i broke up Microsoft for a few weeks.
Cool. Thanks
Me too. That’s what keeps me on jerboa for now.
Female. I’m happy here. Tried to get my engineer husband to switch but he won’t spend the time to set up something new. In his defense he’s a great guy, a grill master, and has recently learned to make his own doctor and dental appointments.
🤣🤣🤣. Right?! Over 50. Not a tech nerd.
I’ve settled on Jerboa for now. The only thing i can’t find is a way to share a link to a community.
And didn’t they lose like half their value in prep for IPO?
Don’t have to be the biggest -just the most fun.
