They tend to come from the same instances, so it’s pretty easy to block actually, especially after the next Lemmy update comes out. Block hexbear and Lemmygrad and you already got almost all of them. You can do that with certain mobile apps.

In theory, but I used to hate when people would get mad at threads getting brought back from the dead. If the person has a question relevant to the topic, why start a new thread?
To be fair, I think at the time, Lemmy had major performance issues. I can see how sorting that out is a big priority as well.
That seems to be the growing consensus on some of the biggest instances. Hopefully they start prioritizing that, or some other nice dev who knows Rust will. Maybe I need to start brushing up on it lol.
Yay! Finally! Hope that means they figure it out soon.
As I was reading the blog post, I asked myself why a soft fork would be necessary and I’m glad to see they came to the same conclusion by the end.
This is the first I’ve seen of the community following communities idea as a solution to the separation of similar discussions among multiple instances, and I love it. This combined with the personal user curated multi-reddit ideas and we’re golden. I wish I knew Rust so I could help make it come to fruition.
Someone is working on one. Don’t think it’s out yet, though.
Lemmy and Kbin are actually completely different apps, like Lemmy and Mastadon, but they can federate with each other through the Activity Pub protocol, and they both happen to be aiming to be Reddit replacements. (Kbin is also aiming to have some Twitter-like functionality as well.) I like the way Kbin sorts its posts better, but I like Lemmy’s terminology more. I don’t mind either of their UI.
True. But at least the main Mastadon app has a little tutorial to help you pick a server. Maybe Lemmy needs one like that. Or we can just tell people to go to Lemmy.world or sh.itjust.works or our own small instance like I have.
Hopefully that stays true. I’ve definitely been in the same boat, sort of reviewing the Reddit front page every now and then out of habit when I’m bored at work, but immediately getting bored after the first page or two and after the first couple comments. I only go there for the most niche subreddits (some video game communities) or when I’m researching an issue now.
More users means more content, especially for a Twitter-like service which is based on following individual people. And apparently they already have more sign-ups than Mastadon.
This is a neat idea. I’m guessing it’s something the admin of the instance has to run?
Like a multireddit-like ability? I know that would be useful and has been highly requested. I personally would love that function.
Lol so true. Once you block them, you just see the comments of people mad at them without any of the context and it’s just so annoying.
