IDK, I thought I saw they said it cost $300-400 a month to host, for a personal expense that’s pretty significant for most folks (plus the time, though it seems to be a labor of love).

They started out like that, but then they tried to force it down everybody’s throats and it backfired. It was mismanaged from start to finish, which is a shame because it really was good despite Vic Gundotra.

I guess what I’m saying is: Lemmy won’t kill reddit, reddit will kill reddit.

It kinda does in that when things worsen, more people come to Lemmy, but I agree that Lemmy’s success doesn’t depend on reddit’s demise.

I’m definitely using reddit less after they got rid of RiF. If they ever kill old.reddit.com I think I will be permanently done with them. Loving Lemmy so far though!
