Not true. You’re pushing content to Diaspora, hubzilla, PubCrawl, Streams and many other protocols that are bridged to ActivityPub

Let me ask you this. Tell me what companies and what countries pass this purity test? Where is the line drawn? If someone spends money on leisure in the states for example, are they supporting racism, transphobia etc due to their moneys going to states like Florida, Texas etc? What about people that buy video games even though companies are known to work their employees into depression and have harmful ethics regarding female employees with sexual harassment? Are people that buy games endorsing that culture? How should those victims view fans that continue to make those companies money? What about companies that outsource their manufacturing processes to China? Some companies have put suicide nets to prevent employees from unaliving themselves. Many companies use China for manufacturing. By purchasing products are we endorsing that culture that has led to people taking their own lives?

That’s not true. Bigots can go into web view and still see posts, they have alts on other instances. I’ve literally had friends that this happened to on Mastodon and the perp was making posts about still being able to see their content even while blocked. You run AP, it is not a secure protocol it was never intended to be.

This is an odd take and not even close. It is in fact the Fediverse that would be more harmful. Meta has laws and government scrutiny. There’s a lot of willing filth on the Fediverse. Blocking instances more so became a think the last 1-2 years. Blocking those instances does not mean they don’t exist. Can you find harmful content on Meta’s platform? Sure but that’s mostly due to volume. Where as there’s Fediverse instances straight up for illegal and gross content

AP did not tie it to an instance. It left it up to clients and platforms. Mastodon tied identity to instances

That’s not oppression and that’s offensive to suggest such a thing. You and others are making a big deal about blocking Threads and safety. People having an expectation to hold you to account is not oppression in the slightest. Facebook & Twitter are poor examples because they are well over a decade old thus people have built communities and relationships on those platforms. You and others have stated how those that want to federate with Threads due to relationships, communities and interests that are on Meta’s platform isn’t worth the compromise. Yet, you’re saying it is in fact valuable, so valuable you’ll have an account on this “unsafe” platform. That is hypocrisy not oppression

This is nonsensical to me. Why make a big raucous about Threads and others, go through all of these private and secure measures to then have two accounts, one actively on the side or the Fediverse you so called need protection from? That’s some real privilege

This has a lot of nonsense. It gives too much credit while vague regarding LLaMA2. It failed to mention a lot of Open Source work Meta has done lately. It was only from a US point of view and not how the EU has been a thorn in Big Tech’s side. Mastodon has 1.6 MAU and many users have multiple accounts. Mastodon is too small for Meta to care about. Those startups Meta squashed were doing innovative things Meta never seen applied before. When it purchased Instagram and WhatsApp there were many millions of active users. Meta as was many Big Tech companies a part of the W3C when AP was being planned and backed out. The Fediverse is about as old as Facebook so Meta has seen this before, Mastodon hasn’t done anything new on this front. Outside of that there are some interesting considerations

OANN and Gab are one example of a back down. What about the child porn instances? They are still on the Fediverse, they’re just blocked by lots of instances. Using Gab provides a false sense of safety to people.
