This is how Czechoslovakia lost the Sudety region just before WW2. Germany also claimed that the German populace there is being mistreated and there is so much Germans living there that it should belong to Germany anyway.
Maybe this sounds a bit more familiar? Back then the West let them have it to maintain peace - funny how Russia and pro-Russians are calling for the same thing now…
Slovakia is also falling to Russian stooges nd disinformation. It looks to me like if they’d invade about half the people (current government included) woud welcome them (at least at first)

What I meant is I have no idea how long it exists, so people might not have the luxury of using it to check for existing communities.

That’s partilly more on the people creating duplicates without looking if the community doesn’t exist already.
Granted, the lemmy explorer tool might not be around for too long for people to be easily able to - since someone on you instance needs to known a community exists on other instance and access it for everyone to see it. And some people might just not be aware of it as well.

This is actually a shorter list than expected, but have similar issue with other hobbies as well. Might hve missed some too.

How have you found about it? Just curious, as I barely heard bout it during the Great API Exodus when you’d expect it would ve talked about most. It was lucky, really so I imagine your story was even more?
Also more specific communities, even for the geeky stuff. For example gaming communities are decently active, but not much for specific games.

Funilly enough, apparently they have enough server power and the bottleneck is the software. Or so I was told.
Thanks for clarifying. I’ve since seen post that the devs are aware people want it, but have too much work with other things to look into it. So it is likely possible, but might not come anytime soon unless someone steps up and does the functionality themselves.
