I got to ask, is the Bean app named after the big Bean memes that occurred to Lemmy?
I got to ask, is the Bean app named after the big Bean memes that occurred to Lemmy?
How? :0
I liked the designs there, but Fuck Spez ones.
I initiated my Fediverse trip on Lemmy thanks to Reddit and Spez, and then “moved” to Mastodon, currently trying out some Android clients, may I ask what is bad with Mastodon?
I just discovered how the tags work, and I don’t know if Twitter has something similar there (because even when I have a Twitter account my usage there is quite limited, and all points to be even less in the future lol) but I really enjoy having my customized feed, created by me and not by an algorithm.
Does this have any good Android clients?
Thanks for the heads up!
I will check it out, is following hashtags a client side feature or OG webpage supports it?
People follow hashtags and search for them. Then you’ll get likes and boosts.
How do I follow hashtags? I am using the official Mastodon app for Android.
I tried it and liked it when I saw the first post about it, it wasn’t perfect but looked nice, I stopped using it mostly because I am a Safari user lol (yeah, shame on me).
I have barely ever used Twitter and yet I tried Mastodon, but it is uninteresting to me, maybe I just don’t like microblogging social media, Reddit/Lemmy in other part is easier for me to get addicted lol.
lol, and I was thinking I was supporting other’s users opinions.
If for an event you refer to something like the Reddit API fiasco then I wonder how many people joined here not because of Reddit, but because looking for social news aggregators.
Maybe some folks come from Mastodon but before Mastodon for me the Fediverse (indeed I just thought it was a selfhosted Twitter and nothing else) was non existent, even when I knew about Lemmy (on Reddit) I didn’t relate it with Mastodon.
I feel my smaller communities aren’t as active as I would like, I suppose the best way to fix this is that we all lurk less and contribute more, that and share fun stuff from here to acquaintances, even through other social media.
I understand what you mean, but I followed mostly selfhosting, emulation and handheld subreddits, I barely ever browsed r/all to begin with, and I still feel my feed wasn’t full of karma whores.
When I truly believe Lemmy content has more quality so far compared with Reddit it still miss lots of topics that interest me.
All the time this instance goes down it makes me chuckle because its name.
How does this works then?
Yeah, definitely I think it is better to have the defederation tools per user instead of per instance, or even if an instance decide to defederate from another one let the user override this change.
Also about moving across the instances this would be nice when it is officially supported (or the third party tools to work better) to migrate from one instance to another.
You are right about Lemmy/Kbin being in a so early state compared with almost anything, but I’m glad it is growing so fast (we know why) I definitely see myself being around here for a long time.
Because big servers taught us that way, you don’t join to local.facebook or something like that, you join to the biggest community you find.
Even when we have Activity Pub as a backend defederation is still a thing, so I think a bit of FOMO enters this game as well 😅
Also, it’s more in the spirit of the fediverse to spread out over several smaller instances. :D
Yeah, but this is hard to do for most users, as you can see I am using a Lemmy.world account lol, but that doesn’t stop us to have an account somewhere else though.
Ahh, that was what I was guessing, but a quick search didn’t lead me to anywhere 😅
I’m glad more causal users get to enjoy this then!
The apps that I know that support mark as read posts while you scroll and hide read posts are:
Sync Summit Voyager Infinity Connect (which handles it differently)
