C’est en partie les gens qui possèdent plusieurs logements. Les AirBnB. Les spéculateurs qui achètent juste pour revendre et qui laissent ça vide en attendant.
L’immigration fait aussi partie du problème mais n’est pas la cause principale.
Dans les années 90, le gouvernement fédéral a arrêté tous les programmes de logements sociaux. Le gouvernement de la CAQ viennent de faire pareil. Moins de logements sociaux/abordable = augmentation des loyers.
What need to change? Real steps toward reducing greenhouse gas. Stop subsidizing cars (even electric ones!) and invest all that money into public transport. That would be a good first step. Then maybe I’ll be proud to be Canadian.
We have to be careful if we want to keep it this way though! 😄
I remember reading that city taxes should change from being based on the value of the building to only be based on the value of the land. This way it discourages only single-family homes.
