Isn’t the whole point of git that the repo is cloned in a million places. You can switch the remote repo really easily?

Maybe i’m wrong; I stopped using github years ago. And I don’t do a lot of collaborative stuff, so I’m happy with just local git + rsync, local backups for most things. Maybe it has loads of unique features I’ve never noticed.

I’m sure there are ways to scrape other data off the platform too. For example:

I’m not saying the alternatives are necessarily better for every project. Maybe github really is best for some - but it is a choice of the project to use github. They can move if they prefer the set of features of another repository.

I’m not convinced by anyone using “critical mass” justification for choosing github, that sounds like stockholm syndrome even though you have a key to the door.
“Too lazy to switch” that’s legitimate; if a wee bit dissapointing.

Is it? you’re probably talking 4th or 5th dose at this point. Are many countries really still doing comprehensive booster programmes for all ages?

In my country - for this flu season - the only under 65s who get a booster covid vaccination are those with specific health issues or care workers.

Even looking at a country like Germany that typically have much better health service, it looks like they’re limiting the additional annual boosters to mostly over 60s plus special cases at younger ages.

I’d be more worried abut the low uptake in the elderly groups - did they get no booster at all, or did they just not get the xbb 1.5 specifically?
I think there was a bit of a rush and supply chain issues in September with the new variant.

We’re at about 68% for over-65s this season as a point of comparison - so that looks way higher than canadian old people as reported in that article.

can each kbin/lemmy/etc. also query the upvotes/boosts/likes from all instances and combine them to create ranking(s) of posts that represent the interactions from the whole user base?

people who like content sorted by “top” or “hot” or upvotes or boosts and so on also need a large diverse number of people viewing and clicking to create a meanigful / representative ranking of content.

probably an “S-curve” type relationship
