Xiaomi phones usually get their source code published. From there, you may want to choose a Qualcomm device, for some reason developers prefer these to build device trees for custom ROMs. If you don’t mind having an older phone, you may want to check the list of officially supported phones for reputed custom ROMs like Lineage OS or Pixel Experience and buy one of those. I’m guessing that phones in China are cheap and options are numerous.

It’s weird to me that, in this specific community, people is condemning this kid as a cyber criminal and as someone playing for the “wrong side”.

Very recently, and “dirt cheap” is a stretch. Dirt cheap compared to the pandemic years, sure.

It’s way better than the relative numbers of Threads. I expect a decline of active users, since a lot of Reddit users registered to a Lemmy instance expecting a similar experience that couldn’t be fulfilled. It will stabilize and grow up again with peaks when, for example, old.reddit.com is ditched.
