The judge said granting paternity to the man would force the mother to have contact with him in order to arrange visitation or make decisions requiring parental authority, which he said would be “unbearable.”

The man withdrew his paternity claim in November, which the judge deemed a “strategic attempt” to leave the door open for future claims.

“We cannot condone nor tolerate that the assailant uses a procedural technique to escape an unfavourable result in the hopes of being able to take it up again later,” he wrote, adding that the possibility of a future claim had left mother and child with a “sword of Damocles” hanging over their heads.

My partner is a refugee because she criticized her government on Facebook. Really has opened my eyes to the ways in which life could be a lot worse. I’m grateful that that can’t happen here (USA), though I worry about the future.

I’ll take this opportunity to promote the book, Culture Warlords, by Talia Levin. She went undercover online in nazi hate groups and emerged to write a spectacular book about it. They live very sad lives (as they should). It’s quite eye opening.

I bought the book after hearing her on a podcast. Then I heard her on another podcast, where Brianna Grey Joy completely fucked up the interview (as she sometimes does). Talia said fuck it, I’m out. I was impressed at her attitude. I grabbed the book and immediately sat down to read it.

I got super upset reading a New Yorker article about flat-earthers in 2018. My then-partner said I should let it go, “let them believe what they want to believe,” and “it doesn’t affect you.” My answer? “These people vote.”

My partner is a political refugee from Thailand. She was jailed for criticizing the monarchy on Facebook. She fled when she got out. She can never go back. She misses her family.

I’m pulling for this lady. She has a difficult life ahead, even if she escaped prison.

I’m gonna sound like a dick who didn’t really address the intended question, but why use those sites? Not being on corporate social media solves the problem. I know that doesn’t work for a lot of people, so apologies to those folks.

I signed up for EFF newsletters when they were fighting the V-chip and DMCA. I was a teenager and couldn’t suss out all the legal language in their letters. I was always unsure if I was supporting the good-guys or the bad-guys.

EFF are the good-guys. We need them fighting for our rights online. Thank you, EFF, for standing up for us. And fuck the politicians who keep trying to strip them away, either through ignorance of tech or by deliberately trying to control us.
