  • Canada Post says domestic letter mail rates have gone up twice in the last decade: by five cents in 2019 and two cents in 2020. It says the last “major pricing change” was made in March 2014.

It says the impact of the change is estimated to be about 65 cents per year for the average Canadian household, and about $12.07 for the average Canadian small business.

Make it $2 for my household that might mail something once a year and invest yourself in some infrastructure, Canada Post.

  • Desjardins and TD Bank are among forecasters calling for easing to begin in the spring, while RBC, CIBC and BMO are eyeing closer to mid-year for cuts. Money markets continue to fully price in a first, 25-basis-point cut in June, according to Reuters.

CIBC chief economist Avery Shenfeld said in a note to clients Wednesday that if inflation comes in below expectations, cuts starting in April are not off the table. CIBC is calling for a total of 150 basis points of rate easing this year, with the possibility the second cut from the Bank of Canada is half a percentage point.

The central bank’s next interest rate decision comes on March 6, with its updated forecasts for inflation and the economy set for April.

  • Grouping them wouldn’t mean merging them. For a lack of better terms a Group (multi-Reddit) would allow each indexed community to retain its independence.

But I do see your point about bad mods. Leaving a rotten community in the index has the potential of making the group look bad. However, that’s where the beauty of federation comes into play where users can unsubscribe from those undesirable communities from the larger group.

I think the multi-Reddit approach as the default would work best. Users subscribe to a “central” Group or Topic and immediately pull content from every federated community that self-designates as such.

One problem with this is if the community changes their mind and turns into something else. Either they check a box and designate under another Group or Topic, or get unsubscribed by users manually.
