Does turning away Europeans with valid paperwork really make British borders ‘safe and secure’? It’s hard to imagine, says Spanish journalist María Ramírez
Brit here. I recently went on holiday to Poland (Gdansk) and was pleasantly surprised at just how peaceful it was there on an evening despite people drinking.
It’s a completely different story in the UK. It’s normal/acceptable to be loud and a complete nuisance when in areas where people frequently drink alcohol (like city centres). It’s embarrassing. You won’t get into trouble unless you do something more severe like vandalism.
I don’t think a lot of Brits realise that this hasn’t been normalised in other countries, and that it shouldn’t be behaviour that is acceptable here (or anywhere) in the first place.
Why not though? Loud doesn’t mean abusive or aggressive. Cultural differences shouldn’t be completely squashed. Some cities are bright lights and some are quiet and some are loud.
There’s being loud, and then there’s being so loud that you’re being inconsiderate to the people around you who are just trying to enjoy their own evenings. The latter kind of loud is what I’m talking about. It’s inappropriate and it’s selfish.
