  • Thanks for pointing this out. For now, I’m good with the @matrix but I will keep that in mind. Now the federation seems to be working. I completely threw out the npm config and remade it. Here’s the new logs. One thing doesn’t work anymore though: I’m not receiving messages from my second account and am not getting “is online” notification (green circle). Here’s the current log. https://hastebin.com/share/piyumiloho.yaml (btw the .well-known was because federation tester pointed out there was none and I assumed that was the problem.)

  • Thanks for answering. I‘m using synapse at this point but I‘m not totally set on that. I need to get back to you on the configs. They’re a huge pain to set up. I kinda get why people are using ansible playbooks. Getting the homeserver.hjson and compose file to sync up and generally getting the configs of those to sync up and then needing srv records and custom npm locations really gets to me.

  • Looks promising! Will check it out. I‘m a little wary of lemmy integration since I see lemmy as a forum, kind of. Mastodon makes more sence to me for a blog.

I tried to make a subreddit for a project in the past and it didn’t work at all. It’s just not the best fit for a forum imo except if the project is highly adopted already and discussed. For news and updates, a blog makes more sense.

  • Finally! This link aggregator bs was going on my nerves already and I blocked all politics and news since most of it us rage bait imo.

You’re absolutely correct. We need the juicy stuff that gets people talking without bashing each others heads in. For this, we need people who make communities, post stuff and attract other creative folks.

I made a tech community since I am a tech guy. Everyone who wants this place to thrive should make a community and/or post something of value every day.

    Have a good one.

  • I think this is a neat idea! How to make it work though…

From my perspective, the fediverse is mostly about pioneering. Venturing to new places where the others (twitter, reddit) have been for years and were established. We‘re still fighting trolls and stans from time to time but far less than on the reddit side.

There is corporate disobedience as we walk away from the known, the enshittified and the boring to brave places where new people might spit in our face or name you their bff.

I mean, the fediverse is really as if someone had hacked twitter, sold the code to 100 people and now they all spin up connected clones. Same with reddit. Benefit: one clone goes down and the service still exists.

If you need more inspiration i‘d suggest asking chat gpt. :)
